Jenna Swartz: Team 3
So yesterday, Thursday, was a bundle of fun. First, we drove to this place called Lighthouse community church to sort food. However, as soon as we arrived the person told us that they were not expecting us and didn't have anything for us to do. Then, we were like "well........what do we do now?" Well, I will tell you what we did. Our leader Chris gave us a challenge called.........CITY SEARCH!!!! WOOT WOOT!!!!!!! So, Group 3(my group) split up into two subgroups and received lanyards with challenges on them. I'll just give you an example: One card said to find out how far the "Red Line Metro" ran out of downtown L.A. and how much it would cost to ride it. Well, I took the challenge and boarded one of those shiny red buses, not at all knowing that an angry bus driver sat 3 feet in front of me. So I asked him my questions, and he responded "WHAT!!!???" I was a bit hurt but I proceeded to ask him again, and he answered me very rudely, "It goes to Hollywood and it's $1.50! Okay!!!!!!???" I replied, "Okay, thank you sir," and ran off the bus like a scared little mouse. Oh yeah another challenge was talking to a homeless man, and we talked to this guy named Dan who was super cool.
Then, we had lunch and a break and all that fun stuff. After that peaceful chill time, we drove(while listening to some sweet tunes) to a Salvation Army after school program for children. Everyone met a kid or two who they became close to in just a few hours. I hung out with this girl named Melissa most of the time. She was just ah-dorable and I called her "monkey" because she would climb on everything, including me. Also, I helped dress about a thousand (give or take a couple) Hannah Montanas for a game on Disney Channel.com with many of the girls. After computer class, I chased about ten girls up and down the hallways, but then we had to depart (boo hoo...it was so sad). I will miss those little chillun'.
That night, we went to a Japanese restaurant, and ate an all you can eat buffet. It was delicious. We thought it would be funny to play a little prank on Katie Woods, so we poured wasabi in her drink when she wasn't looking. She continued to drink half of it before saying, "Does this have a funny aftertaste???" then we all laughed. After we finished, we told her what we did. She got mad at us (:
We're heading into the vans right now to start our drive home. Pray for our safe travel! We'll upload some more pictures from the weekend when we're back in Menlo Park. Our estimated time of arrival is 6pm... but please call our information hotline at 650.330.7531 for the most up to date information.
See you soon!
